🇪🇨 🇪🇨🇪🇨Eye Surgical Mission Trip to Ecuador 🇪🇨 🇪🇨🇪🇨

I want to share a short clip of a mother who is crying after her son can see again! She walks with him for many days from the jungle out to the hospital. Her son was totally blind in both eyes. We operated on only one eye as we do not have enough supplies to work on both eyes for him. We carry our supplies in suitcases so we need to spread the workout and give sight back to as many people as we can. With one eye seeing well now, he can go back to work. May be on another trip we will help him with the other eye. He woke up one day and went blind in both eyes. Nobody knew why. After the operation, he can see again. He walks by himself to the hospital director’s office to thanks the hospital for saving his eyesight. His mother cries tears of joy all morning watching her son walks again independently. The other patients applauded him as he walks out by himself! What a joyous morning in the hospital! God bless him! What a miracle to see him see so well one-day post-op!
This morning as I look up at the blue posting in the hospital hallway across from our operating room, it reads in Spanish that I translate as:
Live in such a way that those who know you but do not know God will get to know God because they know you!
We can’t take credit for all the work we do as at time miracles do happen on our mission trips and this is really one of them.
A totally blind man walks in the day before and walks out the next day seeing well enough to go back to work again!

🇪🇨 🇪🇨🇪🇨Eye Surgical Mission Trip to Ecuador 🇪🇨 🇪🇨🇪🇨The local highlander people that we treat in the Andes in Ecuador. They wear their traditional outfit. The hospital is at 9000 feet. But the mountain top here is Chimborazo, known as the highest mountain top above earth center. It is at 20,703 feet of altitude and that’s because it’s near the earth equator. It is very cold here for us coming from Florida. Being sea level folks, we had a hard time the first few days with headache and altitude sickness but we drank a lot of water and kept hydrated and we got over the altitude sickness and now we can work comfortably. It is so cold here at night and we often don’t have hot water to shower in the morning. But just a little discomfort, nothing major. Here are some pictures of the local people we treated in the hospital who came with eye problems.

🇪🇨 🇪🇨🇪🇨Eye Surgical Mission Trip to Ecuador 🇪🇨 🇪🇨🇪🇨 It has been raining for days in Florida. The ground has turned into a soaking wet pad of soft mud. Luckily we have a break in the weather. Though the dark clouds are looming overhead, the rain has stopped for a little while. We quickly load up all 500 pounds of supplies onto our truck to head out to the airport. We try to beat another downpour so we can keep our supplies dry from the rain. As soon as Dr. Kondrot starts the truck, the heavy truck bed loaded with supplies sinks deep into the soft mud!!! We are very worried about the in a coming rainstorm and also our flight departure time is coming up very quickly. We call AAA to the rescue. A tow truck will be there in one hour. We might not make it! The Lord is watching over us. We get a tow truck very fast. The nice driver gets me on the phone and asks “Are you at the church at the end of the street?”. I say “Yes Sir, that’s us waiting at the church for you”. He says “I will be there in a few seconds!” We are saved and off we go. On-time departure for Ecuador. All is well! This morning as we try our best to beat the storm, making it to the airport on time, make sure we don’t forget our custom paperwork for the supplies, make sure we don’t forget anything for the surgical mission, we are under a lot of stress yet deep down I know we will be ok. As we drive out, I receive this text from our pastor friend who sends us off with a prayer: There’s no better place than being in the center of God’s will. It’s filled with peace, joy, and overwhelming security that God has prepared something way better than what you have for yourself. It’s so true. Thank you to all our friends and family who pray for us. Continue to keep us in your prayers as we begin another 2 weeks doing God’s work bringing sight to the blind in Ecuador.

All the post-op eye drops. All the medicine for surgeries. All the drapes and blades. Then lenses. All in all, we are packing close to 500 pounds of supplies for our trip for 2 weeks!
