Our surgical day is finished. We feel very good. It is a productive day, and we feel more energized than ever. We did a lot of good for a lot of people today.

The day continues with many cases of one eye patients, those who have lost one eye due to one reason or another: trauma, cornea problem, etc, and now the only one eye left is going blind due to a cataract.

The day’s surgery is coming along well. We are able to help so many people, and we are very happy about that. The last case is an emergency case. The young woman has lost her eye, and her lids are closing shut. Dr. Kondrot has to make a tunnel so that she can have a prosthesis eye inserted. We have many interesting cases to work on in the afternoon, including a few one eye cases (where the patients have lost an eye due to trauma or other problem) and the only eye left is now losing vision due to cataract or other issues that need to be addressed.
We also have a special case request from a young woman who has lost an eye previously due to trauma, and Dr. Kondrot needs to create a tunnel so she can have a prosthesis eye inserted

Our supplies for Honduras arrive just in time, one day before departure date for San Pedro Sula. We pack them quickly and neatly into four large suitcases. We are carrying enough supplies for 75 cases.

We were able to operate 12 patients today because it took a while to get everything set up. The first day tends to be slower than usual as a lot of things need to be worked out. Dr. Kondrot also did a lot of exam including the little girl in the picture here with a tumor that pushed her eye out. It is growing pretty aggressively. Today is day one of our mission trip to Haiti. We are set to do about 20 free cataract surgeries. In between cases, Dr. Kondrot also does eye exams, screening for future surgery trips, pre-op and post-op check-ups.
